Louis Anquetin was a late–19th century French painter. When he moved to Paris in 1882, he met and befriended Henri de Tolouse-Lautrec and Vincent van Gogh. His paintings portrayed the vibrant Parisian scenes at the Moulin Rouge and cafes, with thick contour lines and flat fields of color that are typical of the era and subject matter. Like contemporaneous artists, Anquetin was heavily influenced by Ukiyo-e paintings from Japan. Anquetin died in Paris in 1932.
