Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun was a Parisian (mostly portrait) painter at the turn of the 18th century. She was Marie Antoniette’s portrait painter and had many other aristocratic patrons. Her paintings emphasized fashion and combined a soft Rococo color palette with an emerging Neoclassical form. Her life of fame and success revolutionized the way society understood the ability and worth of female artists.
