    Fra Angelico (who went by Fra Giovanni) is one of the 15th century’s most recognized artists. With a serene, religious attitude and strong classical influences, Angelico’s works pioneered many of the stylistic trends that distinguished the early Renaissance. He remained at the forefront of artistic innovation in Florence throughout his career, and not long after his death, he was praised as “the Angelic Painter.” Fra Angelico’s life and work has been celebrated for centuries but his contribution to European painting’s development has only recently been fully acknowledged.
